According to OECD Data, Road accidents are measured in terms of the number of persons injured and deaths due to road accidents, whether immediate or within 30 days of the accident, and excluding suicides involving the use of road motor vehicles.
In 2017, 9,383 road accidents were recorded in Nigeria with 66,998 people involved in these road accidents. Speed violations like overspeeding and maniacal driving were recorded as the major cause of these road accidents, showing the Cars, Minibuses, and Motorcycles as the vehicles involved in a very high percentage of the accidents.
FCT, Kaduna, Lagos, Niger, and Nasarawa are recorded as the states where the most accidents occurred.
